    Pairing effect on the giant dipole resonance width at low temperature

    The width of the giant dipole resonance (GDR) at finite temperature T in Sn-120 is calculated within the Phonon Damping Model including the neutron thermal pairing gap determined from the modified BCS theory. It is shown that the effect of thermal pairing causes a smaller GDR width at T below 2 MeV as compared to the one obtained neglecting pairing. This improves significantly the agreement between theory and experiment including the most recent data point at T = 1 MeV.Comment: 8 pages, 5 figures to be published in Physical Review

    Phases of lattice hard core bosons in a periodic superlattice

    We study by Quantum Monte Carlo simulations the phase diagram of lattice hard core bosons with nearest-neighbour repulsive interactions, in the presence of a super-lattice of adsorption sites. For a moderate adsorption strength, the system forms crystal phases registered with the adsorption lattice; a "supersolid" phase exists, on both the vacancy and interstitial sides, whereas at commensuration the superfluid density vanishes. The possible relevance of these results to experiments on 4^4He films adsorbed on graphite is discussed.Comment: 5 pages, 5 figure

    Analysis of parametric biological models with non-linear dynamics

The underlying method is based on the algorithms for computing trajectory sets of hybrid systems with polynomial dynamics.     The effects of earnings management on information asymmetry and stock price synchronicity

    In this study, we test whether earnings management has a positive impact on information asymmetry as well as whether earnings management has a negative impact on stock return synchronicity to investigate how discretionary accrual earnings management affects the imbalance of information and the co-movement of stock prices in Vietnam. We utilise the Pooled OLS (OLS), Random Effects (RE), Fixed Effects (FE), and System GMM models to evaluate our dataset collected from 356 non-financial companies listed on the Hochiminh City Stock Exchange (HOSE) spanning from 2012 to 2021. We find that in Vietnamese market earnings manipulations through accrual based falsify the market and cause information asymmetry leading to adverse effects on market liquidity and stock price synchronicity. Additionally, our findings exhibit greater co-movements between stock prices and earnings management at the larger firms with long incorporation history and are audited by Big Four Audit firms due to their credibility. These findings are particularly useful for foreign investors in making investment decisions as we found that their influences on earnings management in Vietnamese market is limited

    Tuning Electrical Conductivity of CNT-PDMS Nanocomposites for Flexible Electronic Applications

    This paper presents a study into the electrical conductivity of multi-wall carbon nanotube-polydimethylsiloxane (MWNT-PDMS) nanocomposite and their dependence on the filler concentration. It is observed that the electrical conductivity of the composites can be tailored by altering the filler concentration. Accordingly, the nanocomposites with filler weight ratio ranging from 1% to 8% were prepared and tested. Finally, the significance of results presented here for flexible pressure sensors and stretchable interconnects for electronic skin applications have been discussed

    Predicting mitochondrial dynamic behavior in genetically defined neurodegenerative diseases

    Mitochondrial dynamics encompass mitochondrial fusion, fission, and movement. Mitochondrial fission and fusion are seemingly ubiquitous, whereas mitochondrial movement is especially important for organelle transport through neuronal axons. Here, we review the roles of different mitochondrial dynamic processes in mitochondrial quantity and quality control, emphasizing their impact on the neurological system in Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease type 2A, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Friedrich\u27s ataxia, dominant optic atrophy, and Alzheimer\u27s, Huntington\u27s, and Parkinson\u27s diseases. In addition to mechanisms and concepts, we explore in detail different technical approaches for measuring mitochondrial dynamic dysfunction in vitro, describe how results from tissue culture studies may be applied to a better understanding of mitochondrial dysdynamism in human neurodegenerative diseases, and suggest how this experimental platform can be used to evaluate candidate therapeutics in different diseases or in individual patients sharing the same clinical diagnosis

    The theta-join as a join with theta

    We present an algebra for the classical database operators. Contrary to most approaches we use (inner) join and projection as the basic operators. Theta joins result by representing theta as a database table itself and defining theta-join as a join with that table. The same technique works for selection. With this, (point-free) proofs of the standard optimisation laws become very simple and uniform. The approach also applies to proving join/projection laws for preference queries. Extending the earlier approach of [16], we replace disjointness assumptions on the table types by suitable consistency conditions. Selected results have been machine-verified using the CALCCHECK tool
